About the destination: Kathmandu is the history-rich capital and largest town of Nepal. Visit Swayambhunath where the Monkey Temple sits high overlooking Kathmandu. Even more impressive is the huge Boudha Stupa in Boudha, one of the most sacred sites for Tibetan Buddhism. The Hindu Temple at Pashupatnath gives a good idea of the Hinduism in Kathmandu. It is here where you will see the huge fires for the cremations on the banks of the Baghmati River. Go to Thamel for restaurants, bars and shops. Nepal’s most cosmopolitan city has lots to offer, and it is also a perfect base to explore the rest of this magical and fascinating country.

It is the country's second largest city in terms of population after the capital Kathmand since Pokhara and Lekhnath were merged to create Pokhara Metropolitan City in May 2017. It is the provincial capital of Gandaki Pradesh and headquarters of Kaski District. Pokhara is located 200 kilometres west of the capital Kathmandu. Due to its proximity to the Annapurna mountain range, the city is a base for trekkers undertaking the Annapurna Circuit through the Annapurna Conservation Area region of the Annapurna ranges in the Himalayas. In recent decades, Pokhara has become a major tourist destination: It is considered the tourism capital of Nepal in South Asia mainly for adventure tourism and the base for the famous Annapurna Circuit trek.
